White Sneakers for the Summer

Our fellow Space Cowboy BRUCE recently inquired about some sneakers he could wear to dress up an outfit during the summer instead of wearing loafers or leather bottom shoes at the office. This got me thinkin about the age old tradition of buying new white shoes for the summertime. It used to be that every young man in the south would get the same pair of white nubuck or suede bluchers, but now that we are out of the dark ages and into the age of netflix we have many many more comfortable options that look equally as good and only take two hours to decide on. I’m assuming since you are readers of ALMOSTFRIDAY.ORG you already know what an Adidas Stan Smith is, and have probably heard of Common Projects so I wont go there. Here are some possibly new options.
White Tretorns.
Classic for a reason. They are low profile, have a rubber sole, fit well, and are comfortable. They arent too preppy but can still look like you put some effort in. Both J.Crew and Sid Mashburn would frequently style Tretorn Nylites with suiting, and as often with jeans. These are my favorite. For 70 bucks, its worth a shot
Aprix APR002
Notable for the number of streetwear brands doing collaborations with this smaller Portugese factory. I first noticed them from NOAH, who carried both suede and corduroy versions. The pricepoint is a little higher at 128 USD, but they can be found at Matches and other boutiques for less. The suede is nice, corduroy is nice, even the canvas is nice. A nice way to have a simple shoe that isnt canvas if thats your thing.
Veja Esplar low
Space Cowboy Bruce has personal experience that the leather is lacking, but putting it here for you to decide. Again, lots of fashion collabo’s with minimalist goths like the Olsen twins, Rick Owens, and crispy trouser wunderkind Cristophe Lemaire. They also have a larger variety of shapes.
Spalwart Marathon Low

If youve seen anything OV has posted you probably already know about these. Theyre cool I think.
Novesta Marathon
They look pretty similar to the Spalwarts but are half the price-ish. Still easy, still sporty. The Grey/neutral makes it a little easier to wear. Would look good with jeans or some cropped trousers at work. Easy
Doek Oxford sneaker
Yes here we get into the weird sneaker territory. If the previous sneakers are a snoozefest, then here is your chance. Jump back into deck shoes like its 1945 and you are on a naval destroyer en route to the Deathstar to save all of Middle Earth from the Phantom Menace. These are funky and rubbery and maybe waterproof? I’m not really sure what your boss is going to think of these, maybe she (see what I did there) will think they are fun.
Maison Martin Margiela GAT mids
These are your’s truly’s (how in the hell does this possessive apostrophe work in this circumstance) favorite. Ralph likes them, I like them, they are so expensive, what is not to love? Wait for the sales, they’ll come.
German Army Trainers
Here’s a tip for my loyal ALMOSTFRIDAY.ORG readers. There are real Germany Army Trainers that you can still buy online imported from the European demilitarized zone.
