Big Ass Scarf® Season

Big Ass Scarf® Season

Hello,

Here is a tutorial on how to wear a scarf and be warm.

Yours truly,

Peter Middleton

First of all, buy a bigger scarf. Its fine if you have a normal scarf (say 10 inches by 65 inches) but it is way cooler to have a bigger scarf (around 30 by 80). Here is a pro tip, the bigger you get the lighter/thinner/gauzier you want to get, this helps with bulk. Fits 2-4 will look progressively more dumb the shorter/skinnier your scarf is. This is bad.

Fit 1

This is a super basic and easy way to wear. You just put half of your scarf on either side of your neck and fold one side over the other. You can button your jacket over this to help it stay. Its not super warm but still a little bit helpful with the weather.

Fit 2

Now were getting a bit better. For this you want to place the scarf on your neck around 2/3 on one side and 1/3 on the other. Wrap the longer side around your neck. The final lengths of both sides will now be about even, and your neck is warm.

Fit 3

Classic Parisian scarf move. You fold the scarf in half, then wrap both sides together around your neck and pull the two loose ends through the loop on the other half of the scarf and pull snugly so that its wrapping your neck. Look at pictures of fashion editors during Paris Fashion week and this is most likely how they are wearing a scarf. If your scarf is short it will look real stubby and dumb, this is bad.

Fit 4

The warmest and most interesting. Start from Fit 3, but instead of putting both ends through the loop at the same time, put one end in normally, and then place the other end on the top then go underneath the bottom. it will look almost like a knot. it may take some practice to get the proportions and tightness right.

Here is the practical part, tips on how to get a Big Ass Scarf®

-The most amazing are from a brand in Scotland called Begg. They are made of superfine cashmere and aren’t over washed like cheaper cashmere. This means that there is naturally less breakage in the cashmere fibers which means little to no pilling. I have had one of these for about two years and have noticed three pills, that’s it. They are very expensive however, but you may be able to find them on sale towards the end of winter. I found mine on eBay (eBay Mondays).

-The other classic. Drakes does amazing prints every season. Always full of bangers. This is another modal blend scarf

-Here is a much cheaper option from my boss Ralph. Its a lyocell modal wool blend, which means it isn’t quite as warm or soft as cashmere but by no means is it an unsoft scarf

-A comically cheap cashmere scarf from Uniqlo. Don’t expect it to be as wispy/gauzey as it needs to be but it’ll probably do great. Some fun colors. On sale.
